“Be ready in season and out of season”
We had booked a 10 day cruise to celebrate our 41st anniversary. Arriving in Miami we spent the night in Miami and we were ready to board the “Norwegian Sun” the next day.
Once we checked into our room, we were greeted by our room steward, Rene. He introduced us to his wife, Jennifer, who also worked on the ship. As Rene shared that they were Christians and he was the pastor of the Christian Fellowship for the crew workers.
After sharing with Rene what the Lord was doing in our lives, he asked us if we would be willing to come down to the fourth floor of the ship, which was at about sea level, and minister at their Friday night Fellowship service for the crew workers. We told him we would love to come and meet all the brothers and sisters. Rene made all the arrangements including getting permission from the ship director so that Joyce and I would be able to go to the worker’s quarters.
On the second day of the cruise we felt led to approach the cruise director about us leading the non-denominational service on Sunday morning for the passenger guests. He said sure whatever you need.
Friday evening about 11 P.M., Rene came to pick us up, and escorted us to the Fellowship/safety training room which was on deck four. The room was all set up with drums, keyboard, guitars and a worship leader.
We preached a message on “Adam Where Are You?”. Two people came forward for salvation; six came forward to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit; with all receiving their prayer language.
A young lady worker from India; came forward for prayer, for tumors in her uterus. Joyce laid hands on her and cursed those tumors to the source and root of their very existence. Joyce ministered to her, and the young lady drew much comfort from it.
A young man came up standing in for his wife, who was battling depression and dizziness back home in the Philippines. We spoke into those areas and commended those things to be broken off of his wife. He started to weep after the prayer.
Another man; Donald was experiencing hernia issues which he had been operated on six years ago. He said he felt the issues were reappearing, with pain. After prayer; all pain was gone. We saw him the next day; he said the Lord healed him. The pain and all issues were gone.
“Cartagena, Colombia”
One of the ports we would visit was Cartagena, Colombia. We got a cab to take us to the old town. David; a man in his 60s, was our driver and ended up being our tour guide. David could speak very little English, so Joyce was able to keep the conversation going with her Spanish skills. David knew everybody. He took us on a tour of the city ending up in a jewelry shop; thinking Joyce might want to look at jewelry. A lady was there behind the counter with her two adult daughters, and also a man working on jewelry. After talking with them, we came to find out they also were Christians. This gave us an opportunity to talk to them about the power the Holy Spirit. One of the daughters spoke good English. After sharing with them about this gift, that the father wants to give them, they all wanted to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They received their prayer language, and big wide smiles appeared on each one of them. They each expressed different encounters experienced when the Holy Spirit came upon them. The mother said; “By you coming into our store ;it had nothing to do with jewelry”. All; including the man, were filled with joy. Thank you Jesus!
Joyce, I and David left, we were walking back; and I asked the Lord to put someone in our path, that can interpret, so we could share the gospel with David. I had no sooner said that, when a man came toward us who spoke good English. I told him what I wanted to do, and he directed us to a lady who ran a shop who spoke perfect English. We went into the shop where the owner lady agreed to interpret for us. As I started to share with David the plan of salvation, I noticed a lady working behind the counter, came out and listened to everything we were sharing with David. As David began to pray the prayer to receive Jesus into his heart; I looked over towards the lady worker, and she was with all sincerity also praying the prayer. Praise God! When we left there we were walking back to the cab. David was walking ahead of us, he got real quiet and did not want to talk. As we approached him we noticed his eyes were tearing up and he said; “You people really don’t care about yourself”.
“Sunday morning service”
There were about 20 people who came to worship that Sunday morning on the ship. We shared our experiences, and spoke on “According To Your Faith Be It Unto You”. After the service we gave an invite to pray for any with needs. One couple; Gary and Jeanette stayed after and shared how they believe the Lord is directing them into a healing ministry. We prayed with them that the Holy Spirit would give them the boldness, to pursue that vision. There were others who were wanting prayer, but did not wait. We were disappointed they would not wait. Later, we ran into some of the people who attended the service, they said they were so glad something like that was going on; on the ship.
We later talked again with the cruise director about us doing a healing service in the chapel. The director was very open to our request. In fact he allowed us to do two services, on two different days at sea which were announced in the daily newspaper.
During the first healing service we prayed for Barbara, who was on the trip with her step-mother. We prayed for emotional healing and especially the control issues that were coming from her step-mother. Word curses and negative words of failure spoken over her by her mother, were broken off Barbara. Barbara was a Christian; but needed the power of the Holy Spirit in her life. She got baptized in the Holy Spirit and as she began to speak in tongues, she broke into holy laughter. She was burping up sounds and syllables. She felt free and was filled with joy and comfort. Barbara left the chapel a different person! Thank you Jesus!
“Saint Maarten”
Our next port was Saint Maarten. We went into a shirt shop and encountered a man from India, he and his wife were the owners of the shop. This man was very open to talk about the Lord, we prayed for some of the physical issues he was experiencing. He prayed to receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior. We spent some time with him and encouraged him to put away some of the wrong things he had been reading, and to concentrate on God’s word. We also spent some time talking with his wife, who had been allowing some members of a cult to visit her, and leave her material to read. We had to reiterate how this was not truth, and could bring destruction and sickness into your life. She listened and believed; because her husband was telling her the same thing.
We went to another shirt shop and encountered two Muslims. We had a chance to share what God’s word says about heaven and how the blood of Jesus cleanses us so that we might become righteous in God’s sight.
Back at the ship, later that day Rene, the pastor of the ship Fellowship, asked if we would return and minister again on the following Friday night at their Fellowship. We said we would!
“Second healing service”
Our second healing service in the chapel, was again held on one of the days we were at sea. We had two couples come for prayer. One lady had swollen legs, Joyce spoke into the heart issues; and to the fluid build up. Joyce had her renounce all generational curses. Another couple from Ontario; the lady was diagnosed with” Fibromyalgia”. We prayed with her on different issues relating to her body. We had her renounce all word curses and generational curses which would cause trauma. Another lady; Debra, we prayed for diabetes. Debra also asked for prayer for her adopted daughter who had some mental issues, because she was not able to keep a job. As we shared with Deborah about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, she said she had a sister who spoke in tongues. We shared with her what the gift is about, and how it is her Father’s will in heaven that she received this gift. She said no one has ever explained it to me that way. We prayed for her and she spoke in tongues. All those who came up to the chapel were so grateful that there was a healing service available to them on the ship.
“Friday night healing service”
Once again Rene came to pick us up for the evening service down in the worker’s quarters. We preached on; “Signs and Wonders”. We then invited all who needed prayer to come forward. The Lord was healing; backs, gout, knee problems, leg issues, and emotional healings for their spouses. A Hindu man came forward and asked for prayer for alcohol addiction; and stress from sending all his money home to his parents, expecting to get reimbursed. His stress was causing him to revert to alcohol. We prayed and broke that spirit of addiction off him. He asked Jesus into his life and got baptized in the Holy Spirit. We had him turn and face everyone, and he broke into a big smile. Freedom came to the Captive! The Lord was healing skin issues. One young man stood in for his dad who had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. One lady had a urinary tract infection and pain. Joyce prayed for her and the pain was gone. There were about 35 people in attendance. Many came forward and all were being touched and healed. Pain-free! One young man gave a testimony; we prayed for his wife back home, last Friday. He talked to her on the phone and she is at peace, no tension or anxiety; all fear was gone. There were also concerns about her heart. We prayed for that issue; she later went to the doctor for tests, and there was nothing wrong with her heart. All was well. Thank you Jesus! We believe that “The gift of faith” was in operation on those two nights in the Fellowship. Several of the workers were standing in for their wives, parents etc., knowing that “something was wrong with them back home”. The Lord was taking care of their concerns. It was a powerful night of ministry, we hated to see it end. We had to be escorted back to our room by 2 A.M. which was the cruise workers curfew.
The night before our return to Miami; we had two of the workers come to our room for prayer. Their needs were great and we talked with him and prayed into their issues. They were both so grateful for us taking time, between packing, to pray for them. Jerome, one of the young men that we prayed with said; “I never met people like you, I hope you come back”. How sweet a statement!
Rene came to see us and bid us farewell the next morning. He pulled back and started to cry, a bittersweet time.
Something we have learned in our Christian walk. Pray about all of your decisions, and especially about going on a cruise and being on the right ship (Being on the right ship sounds like a good lesson in life). We felt this was a powerful and very fulfilling trip; a trip that did bear fruit, because we asked the Lord in prayer: where you would have us go, and which ship should we be on. Thank you Jesus!
